On August 19, 2008 I photographed Etta James in Beverly Hills for a birthday party. From her wheel chair to her wig, hilarious anecdotes to her out of breath speech I knew I was documenting one of her last performances. It was an honor and I’m sure we’ll meet again.

Here are some of my favorites from Etta’s stage, made just for her atop the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Four Seasons. Enjoy.

I have received lots of emails about this image, people think its shot in a studio. This is an image I shot in Griffith Park in the tall tree forest area. I was walking through and saw these wonderful beams of sunlight coming through the trees and wanted to use the drama of that type of lighting, since it would be impactful. I sat down on the boulder where the model is and showed her how to sit, where to look, etc… and wha…la… its emotive and beautiful. This was photographed with Kodak TMAX 3200, shot at 1600 and processed as 1600. The creamy look to the image is indicative of FILM, as opposed to digital where the pixels almost touch your retinas.

Onwards to the Arboretum for the Ceremony in the Rose Garden, Bridal Portraits in the wide open grounds to some incredible shots by the lake. It was a joyous occasion with family, friends and lots of furry and feathered friends.

Langham Huntington Pasadena Wedding Photography : Erin + Ryan

Erin and Ryan’s wedding was stunning at the Langham in Pasadena. From the dress to the horseshoe manicured lawn, to the lighting and incredibly perfect flowers in the ballroom. Every detail was well developed during planning. I second shot this for Tey of Jan Garcia Photography. Second shooting is one of my favorite ways to shoot a wedding as it frees me up to look for unique shots rather than the must get shots of the day. I often will second shoot my own clients events, and have my second shooter do the must gets, that way I’m fulfilling my creative drive and my clients get one of a kind unique images of their special day.
